Compare & Analyze compares two files and shows you what changed. This page says plainly what happens to your files and to the little data the app does handle.
Your files
Your files are not stored. They are read into memory to be compared and discarded as soon as the result is sent back to you. They are not written to disk or to any database, not kept in logs, and not used for anything else.
Where the comparison happens depends on the file type:
- In your browser only: PDF visual compare, image compare, reading what is inside a .zip, .7z or .rar archive, everything in the Tools (HTML and Markdown readers, JSON and XML beautify, the table converter, text cleanup, the regex tester, the SQL generator), the export of a result, and the passwords you type for protected PDFs. Passwords stay in your browser's memory, are never sent anywhere or saved, and are forgotten when you close or reload the page.
- On the server, in memory: text, JSON, XML, CSV, Excel and the other text-based formats. The files are sent to the server over an encrypted connection, compared, and the result comes back. PDF text mode sends only the text extracted from each page, not the PDF itself. A file opened out of an archive is sent on its own, like any other file.
The app has an optional AI summary feature. It is switched off: nothing you upload is sent to an AI service. If it is ever turned on, this page will say so first.
The VS Code extension
The Compare & Analyze extension for VS Code sends the two files you choose to compare, and your license key, to the server over an encrypted connection. The files are compared in memory and discarded as soon as the result is sent back, like any other file on the server: they are not stored, logged or used for anything else. The license key is kept in VS Code's own secret storage on your computer. The extension itself does not track you.
What is kept on your device
- A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in.
- Your light or dark theme choice.
- Your comparison presets, and the settings you last used if you turn on "Remember my settings". They hold only settings (which switches are on, which columns to ignore), never a file or its text, and are never sent anywhere.
- If you choose "remember me" when signing in, your sign-in details, on that device only.
- The email address you last used in the feedback form, so you do not have to type it again.
- The text you last typed or pasted into each of the Tools boxes (up to about a million characters each, never an opened file), so a reload does not lose it. It stays on this device, is never sent anywhere, and the Tools have a "Forget saved text" button that removes it.
- While a cell or line is open in the side drawer, its text is held in your browser for that tab only.
None of this is used for tracking or advertising, and you can clear it any time from your browser's site settings.
Feedback you send
If you use "Send feedback", your email address, your message and, if you leave the box ticked, basic browser details (browser, screen size, language, page) are emailed to the developer. The email is used to read and answer your message. It is not shared, and it stays in the developer's mailbox until you ask for it to be deleted.
Messages from the Contact page
The Contact page does not need you to sign in. If you use it to ask for a license or a question, your email address and your message are emailed to the developer, and nothing else is collected (no browser details). The email is used only to answer you. It is not shared, it is not stored on this site, and it stays in the developer's mailbox until you ask for it to be deleted. To stop the same address from flooding the form, the site counts messages per network address for a short while, in memory only.
Error reports
If the app hits an unexpected error in your browser, it sends a short report: the error message and technical trace, the page path (without anything after a question mark), and your browser type. Reports never include your files, their names or what is in them, and are used only to fix bugs.
Hosting and logs
The app is hosted with a cloud provider, which keeps its standard request logs (such as time, page and IP address) for security and operations. Compare & Analyze itself adds nothing about your files to those logs.
No analytics, no selling
There are no advertising or tracking cookies, no third-party analytics today, and your data is never sold. If privacy-friendly usage statistics are added later, this page will describe them before they start.
Your choices
You can ask what feedback of yours is held, or ask for it to be deleted, by sending a message through the feedback form or the Contact page. If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes too.
